Why Choose a Muzzle?

Dogs wear muzzles for many reasons; from the traditional management of aggressive behaviour or travelling on public transport, through to safe handling at the vet or preventing wildlife scavenging.

Whatever the reason, it is important that the dog is happy and secure wearing a muzzle at all times. This is particularly important if the muzzle is used for longer periods, such as when out walking or to stop a dog from licking a wound.

Additionally, if a muzzle is being used to enable retraining, it should also allow for positive reward treating while retraining is taking place.

  • Fitting Tips

Width: Measure the circumference of the dogs muzzle, taken at the widest point, allowing another half an inch for movement.

Length: Measure the length of the nose, from the base of the nose just underneath the eyes down to the tip, allowing approximately a quarter of an inch to avoid the muzzle pressing right up against your dogs nose.

Additionally, to get a better fit, the Baskerville Ultra Muzzle can be moulded to fit by warming in hot water, then cooling in cold to create a broader or narrower muzzle as required.
